O Coringa fará sua estreia em Batman Beyond, a HQ do Batman do Futuro que era estrelada por Tim Drake até agora (como reflexo dos eventos narrados em Future's End) e a partir de setembro, na reformulação Rebirth, deve voltar a ter como Batman o protagonista criado na série animada de TV, Terry McGuinnis. Veja acima a capa da edição 3, que sai em dezembro.
"Batman se embrenha na gangue dos Jokerz e finalmente enfrenta Terminal, seu suposto líder. Mas quanto ele ainda tem de sobra para lidar com esse letal inimigo? E finalmente, o momento que os seus seguidores estavam esperando: o Coringa em coma desperta!", diz a sinopse oficial da edição divulgada pela DC Comics.
O Coringa nunca apareceu de fato na HQ do Batman do Futuro, e não está claro ainda que versão do palhaço é essa que "despertará". Na série de TV Batman Beyond, descobriu-se que o Coringa na verdade era o ex-Robin Tim Drake, mas a HQ não necessariamente segue a mitologia que foi estabelecida na TV - mesmo porque Tim Drake já aparece na trama como um aliado de McGuinnis e herdeiro do legado de Bruce Wayne.

Batman | Revelação do passado muda o sentido da cruzada do Homem-Morcego

Tom King torna literal uma interpretação recorrente das motivações de Bruce Wayne

Elogiado por suas passagens por Omega MenSheriff of Babylon e pela recém-encerrada série do Visão, o roteirista Tom King acaba de mostrar a que veio em Batman - HQ que ele herdou de Scott Snyder na metade do ano. A edição 12, publicada nesta semana nos EUA, apresenta um fato do passado de Bruce Wayne que ressignifica toda a cruzada do Morcego. O texto abaixo contém spoilers.

A revelação tem ligação direta com o nome desse arco atual, "I am Suicide". Na edição, Batman escreve uma carta para Selina Kyle, que está sendo transferida para o Asilo Arkham depois de supostamente ter matado 237 pessoas. Ao dividir seus traumas com a Mulher-Gato, Bruce Wayne conta que tentou suicídio aos dez anos, cortando os pulsos com a navalha do pai, depois de ficar órfão.
Não é novidade que HQs tratem Bruce Wayne como um vigilante com tendências suicidas; isso o aproximaria da vasta galeria de personagens com desvios de comportamento e francos distúrbios psicológicos que povoam Gotham, e Alfred sempre fez ironia com isso em mídias diferentes. Na carta a Selina, Bruce reconhece o absurdo de sua cruzada contra o crime, frisando que seus pais - "classicamente dignos, classicamente bondosos" - teriam rido se vissem seu filho fantasiado de Morcego. Bruce reconhece que ele mesmo tem vontade de rir disso às vezes, mas Selina não riria, porque o entende.
King escreve na edição que o momento da tentativa do suicídio foi o instante em que Bruce fez seu juramento de combate ao crime. "Minha vida deixou de ser minha vida", diz Bruce na carta. Segundo ele, sua cruzada "é a escolha de um garoto, a escolha por morrer""Eu sou Batman. Eu sou suicídio", finaliza. Esse tema do instinto suicida já era perceptível desde a primeira edição da fase de King.
A revelação não só torna literal a tendência suicida de Bruce Wayne como reconfigura o sentido da sua cruzada, interpretada por muitos como um modelo de superação do homem comum contra a adversidade. Em entrevista ao CBR, King diz que consultou Scott Snyder sobre o teor da HQ. "Eu falei pra ele: 'Tomei essa decisão, e estou um pouco nervoso, porque não estou certo se fui longe demais'. E ele me respondeu: 'Esse é o meu Batman. Esse é o Batman que eu estive escrevendo também. Eu nunca cheguei a dizer [que Batman é suicida] mas é ele, sim'."
"É como se Bruce dissesse: 'Eu não vejo mais um sentido de levar uma vida para mim, mas posso viver a minha vida para os outros'", diz King, frisando que, para ele, Bruce Wayne sempre teve esse perfil, desde sua criação. "Isso é quase uma literalização de algo que já está por aí há muito tempo."
